We all want to live a happy, fulfilling life! I mean, that’s the whole goal with self improvement, right? We’re not putting ourselves through the challenges for nothing- we’re all making changes so that we can live a better life.
But living a fulfilling life doesn’t have to be this huge, overwhelming goal you’re working towards.
When you think about your end goal being a happy, fulfilling life, it can seem really daunting! All you see are the hurdles you need to overcome in order to get there and it feels like an impossible task.
Because of that, I think the best way to work towards your goal of living a happy, fulfilling life is to focus on tiny ways to uplevel your life. If you can focus only on the next level/challenge/step that you need to overcome, then working towards a happy life seems less intimidating.
Having this perspective of your self improvement journey is a game changer because it breaks apart one huge goal into smaller action steps.
You don’t need to have everything figured out in order to live a happy life, you just need to be making small improvements. These small improvements will add up and you will feel the positive changes that are moving your towards that larger happy, fulfilling life end goal.
I really think adopting this perspective could help you feel like achieving a happy life is within your reach (because it is!). So, let’s get into what exacting it means to uplevel your life, and then tips from the community to give you ideas on small ways you can start to uplevel your life.
What does it mean to uplevel your life?
Upleveling comes from the constant process of removing things that aren’t serving you and replacing it with things that do. This could be anything from removing people from your life that don’t align with who you want to be and replacing them with people that do, to removing self sabotaging behaviors from your life and replacing them with healthier actions.
Let’s think about someone who is on their self improvement journey.
They identify ways to enhance their life, and as they start to make changes, they are having to understand themselves better, learn new skills, and take different actions. Through this whole process, they are becoming a new version of themselves because they’re learning and acting in new ways.
Now, they are moving through life as a new version of themselves. This allows them to show up differently in life and the world around them shifts because of it. It’s impossible to go back to the way things used to be, because they learned something, implemented a change, or began acting in a way that doesn’t allow them to back track because it would feel shitty or like they’re going backwards.
This is upleveling- when you level up in life because you’ve become a new version of yourself or made such a drastic change in your life that you can’t go back to the way things were.
I like to think of life as a video game, and each stage of your life has different levels. Each level is filled with obstacles and tasks that are there intentionally to help you grow into the best version of yourself. Each level may consist of challenges that are meant for you to learn a lesson, try something new, or experience something different. And the goal is to pass the challenges in order to get to the next level that will bring you closer to your best self. Once you’re at the next level, you receive your next set of challenges that you are supposed to navigate as the new version of yourself you became in the last level.
The constant process of learning, and growing, and evolving is setting new standards for your life. This is upleveling.
To uplevel your life means:
- Being better than you were in the past
- Removing the things that don’t serve you
- Releasing self-sabotaging behavior
- Aligning with your authentic self
- Being intentional with your choices
- Naturally creating higher standards for your life
Upleveling comes from the tiny steps you take to choose things that align with who you want to be. Those tiny steps ultimately add up and improve your life.
Upleveling is very much trial and error because what works for one person may not work for someone else. What everyone needs in their life is so personalized because we’re all here to learn different lessons and go down different paths. So what helped me uplevel may be incredibly different from what helps someone else uplevel.
For that reason, I surveyed 12 different people to see what helped them on their journey to give you inspiration on things you may try to uplevel your life.
My goal with sharing this is to:
- Give you ideas on things you can do to up level your life
- Show you that you’re not alone and other people have had to make intentional changes in their life
- Show you that living a happy, fulfilling life takes work and intentional decisions and changes to get there

10. Getting professional help
I'm on a total health and wellness kick. I hired a trainer three days a week, but when I'm not with him I'm making sure I move my body. I'm a life and relationship coach, but I believe everyone should have someone to talk to. So, I found a therapist I absolutely love and connect with. I keep a goal journal where I write down monthly goals and assess why I met or didn't meet them.
